Jil Sander Becomes a (Not So) New Name to Know in Accessories

Talk about doing it all!  Since the 1970s, the Jil Sander brand has been succesfully selling to luxury clientel throughout the world (initially throughout Germany and Europe).  A true "lifestyle" brand, the Jil Sander line (originally launched in 1973 by it's namesake business women as a women's wear collectionin Hamburg, Germany) has been inclusive of from women's wear, fragrance, men's wear, eyewear, shoes, bags, and jewelry.  The line is now headed up by creative director and fashion industry favorite Raf Simons.

It wasn't until 1995 that the brand made a push for international appeal, launching Jil Sander USA and eventually opening up flagships in Chicago and NYC by the 2000's.  Now, just a few years later in the grand scheme of things, the Jil Sander brand is popping up all over American media.

Among the recent Jil Sander buzz, you'll find the new Jil Sander "it" bag receiving a vast amount of reviews (very mixed) and an apparently even bigger number of orders.  Boutiques report that they simply can keep the new "market" bags, which largely resemble vellum style shopping bags, in stock.  The bags sell for around $140 and are making the Jil Sander name noticeable to women who have otherwise passed the minimalist euro chic luxury line by in the past.

Blogger Annie Jurgensen of Style Hurricane writes "Only Raf Simons can make a plastic bag the it bag of the season. And he did. I'm seeing the Jil Sander market bags everywhere!"  Similar sentiments by fashion columnists and bloggers have seen floating throughout the web since around March of 2011.

If you're simply not sold on a $140 market bag, you'd think we might be able to tell you you're in good company, but we can't as the bags are currently on back order everywhere.  What we can tell you though, if plastic grocery style shopping bags are not your accessories cup of tea, is to try to hold off bias until you check out the rest of the Jil Sander aestetic (We especially recommend the mysteriously sexy skinny ties in the menswear line).  There is a lot more to take in and like it or not, Jil Sander is a (not so very) new name to know!
