Jewelry Fit for Beauty Queen?

When Kaity and I attended New Jersey Fashion week a few weeks ago, we joked that there were Beauty Pageant Queens everywhere you turned.  I guess if you do the math, that might seem a little exaggerated.  Since New Jersey has 21 counties and a "Miss" for each, that IS 21 for this year alone.  Miss New Jersey herself makes 22.  Now, I'm not even sure if they were all able to make it that night, but I do know it seemed like it.  Additionally, winners from years past must have been invited to, because there were several older woman there donning their crowns and sashes...  What's this have to do with jewelry? Read on.

Miss New Jersey Contestants
wearing Jewelry by Yannina and Co.
All the beauty queens of the Miss New Jersey franchise, or at least all that we talked to, wore jewelry by Yannina and Company for the night.  With its sparkle, many pieces with diamonds chips, and large statement pieces, yes, it seemed that Yannina and Company was jewelry fit for a beauty queen.

...but what about other beauty queens? (although it may not seem like it these days, NJ isn't the ONLY state) Hmm.  Well, if you asked me this question a few days ago, I would've assumed that contestants would wear any one of many designers, major or otherwise that happened to match the dress - but apparently its not quite so random.

Did you know there is actually jewelry specifically designed for pageant contestants?  There are a few companies who have built their entire business around this for decades.  One such company is Stephanie Somers Inc of Texas.  The company creates the Stephanie Somers Collection, who I stumbled across on the internet a few days ago (nope, I'm not going to say I had prior knowledge of this one).

Anyone can buy a Stephanie Somers piece, but they often work with pageant contestants and ballroom dancers.  In fact, almost half of the Miss USA 2010 contestants were wearing Stepanie Somers earrings, just to give you a quick idea of what a serious pageant 'CV' Stephanie Somers has.  Sure, these earrings might be a bit over par for the course at the office, but if you're going to be in a pageant anytime soon, well, they'll  certainly deliver the drama.

Here are some of my sparkling over the top favorites from the Miss USA 2010 competition:

Think your earlobes can handle it? Believe it or not, with all light weight swarovski crystals, these babies are probably a lot lighter than they look.
