Meet Eddie Borgo, Jewelry's new Megastar
God save the sheen...and the spikes...and the chains! Designer Eddie Borgo began bringing all of these classic punk concepts into chic jewel fruition, (…saving them, if you will) as recently as 2009. Those in the fashion world know how long it can take for a designer to rise to the top, but Eddie Borgo’s name became so popular so quickly, that no one seemed to have the time to even write a Wikipedia page. Sure, you’d love to be jealous, but wow, how could you when Eddie’s headshots just scream nice guy? Nice guy with an edge that is of course, as with his jewelry career, Borgo seems to be picking up where Robert Lee Morris leaves off as far as risqué rebellion is concerned.
Proclaiming influence from Punk ideology and New York’s street culture, Eddie Borgo aims to “bring a fresh perspective and new energy to these established themes.” His works are most commonly called “rebel chic” by fashion editors. NYC isn’t the only locality to enjoy Borgo’s pursuits, as his collections have received serious global love since their inception in 2009. His pieces can be seen on street fashionistas and rock royalty like Joan Jett, Kelly Osborne, and Rihanna alike.
Eddie’s newest collections show hints of punk, new wave, and even Egyptian, but this designer certainly has a vision for the future all of his own. Shiny silver spikes are a staple of his collection, as are clean sawtoothed lines that would give even the most bashful unassuming wearer a newfound sense of righteous edge. The “3 station trinity necklace” is simplicity genius, and the “sterling silver spike necklace” is exactly what so many style savvy customers have been looking for. The great news is that Eddie Borgo’s pieces are extra unisex friendly...if you ask me, anyway!
Borgo has studied fashion at art foundation at Virginia Commenwealth University in Richmond, VA, Art Institute of Atlanta, and Hunter College of NY. He has worked for Barney’s New York, DKNY, Joseph Altuzarra, and Moschino. Borgo is also famous for his collaborations with other famous designers including Philip Lim. Eddie was recently named cfda/vogue-fashion-fund award nominee, which is now established as a most prestigious honor in the fashion industry. Although the ten amazing finalists have been chosen, we'll still have to keep our eye out for the winner in the coming months. You can shop Eddie’s sought after pieces on http://www.eddieborgo.com/ or find them in Neiman Marcus or Bergdorf Goodman.
p.s. - attn: jewelry collectors, its rumored that a fine jewelry collection by Borgo is in the works.
